Cool down and have fun at Oviedo’s Aquatic Facility

Living in Oviedo has many wonderful benefits from excellent schools to fantastic neighborhoods to live in. One of the top rated attractions of Oviedo is their Aquatic Center located at 148 Oviedo Boulevard, Oviedo, FL.

While the facility is open all year round, the summer time is the only time that the Splash Zone is open for use. The Splash zone is a zero depth entry pool with play areas, mushrooms water spouts and slides. The depth is at 4 feet where kids and adults can slide into the pool from the great big blue slide.

All year long the Big Kahuna is open for use and provides Oviedo residents with an Olympic sized pool with lanes of up to50 meters. With the pool being heated, this gives those avid swimmers and triathletes year long training facilities. Another very nice feature of this pool is the handicap lift into the pool for those needing assistance.

The Splash Zone gets busy in the summer time and it has hours of operation for Oviedo residents only. So, if you want to be able to utilize this wonderful facility and you are not an Oviedo resident….call me and I can help you find a wonderful home in the charming community of Oviedo, FL.

There are many Oviedo homes for sale in a wide range of prices in fantastic neighborhoods. The roots of the city’s name “Oviedo”

Back in 1991, when I first moved to this city called “Oviedo”, I did not realize the history and the charm of the wonderful community.  Now, so many years later, I have not only discovered the charm but have been compelled to dig into the history of how this great community came to be.  So to start, I decided to research and blog about the name “Oviedo” and where did this name come about for the great city.

Long gone is the little store called “O-Videos” on SR 434. Back in the day, I so thought that was the cutest name for a video rental store that resided in the little town of Oviedo, pronounced “O-vee-dough”.

After researching the cute name I learned that Andrew Aulin, an immigrant from Sweden and the postmaster in 1879 actually chose the name.  Prior to this, the city had been known as the Lake Jessup Community.  Mr. Aulin, who came to city in 1870 married Lona Lawton in about 1874 and became an Orange County commissioner in 1887 (yes, Orange County!  I will explain later on that one). As the postmaster and a man who knew more than 4 languages, he chose the name “Oviedo”, (pronounced O-vee-a-dough in those days) after a northern town in Spain and because of Florida’s connection with Spain.

Welcome to Oviedo Homes blog!

Thank you for visiting our blog on Oviedo Homes.  The blog has been created to inform, educate and entertain our audience with all items about Oviedo and to let people know why Oviedo and its surrounding areas are a great place to live, work and raise a family.

We will be discussing topics about Oviedo such as its long history in central Florida, to what are some of the great activities in the area and what exactly are “The Oviedo Lights” and the “Oviedo Chickens” as well as some of the most wonderful neighborhoods of the city.

When I first moved to the Oviedo area in 1991, my first question my Miami friends and family asked was….”what in the heck is Oviedo?”  I laughed it off and said ”it is some small town very close the school I was attending, University of Central Florida.”  At the time, I was just living there and had not yet discovered the full charm of the city and its history.  Today, I understand and LOVE IT.  So, how did Oviedo get its name?  Good question!

Come back in the next few days and we will have that story and some other great tidbits as well.

Thank you for visiting with us and we hope you will tell your friends and family about this blog!
